Born 26 May 1845 in Freudenburg, Kreis Saarburg, Germany; John was the oldest of seven children born to Wilhelm & Johanna (Meyer) Junk. The family immigrated to America in May 1855, settling in Centerville Township of Manitowoc County, WI.

On 20 October 1866, John married Elizabeth Klein in Manitowoc County, WI; they were both age 20. Born 14 February 1846 in the Luxembourg; Elizabeth was the older of two children born to Nickalaus & Magdelene Klein.

A successful farmer, first in Centerville (Township) in Manitowoc County and later near the village of Athens, WI in Johnson (Township); John died of old age on 26 January 1934 in the home of his daughter, Magdelena Kaiser in Athens, WI at age 88.

John and Elizabeth had a total of 19 children, but only eleven lived into adulthood.
