Birth: Oct. 21, 1823, Norway
Death: Jan. 21, 1909
Menomonie Junction
Dunn County
Wisconsin, USA

This is my great grandfather who gave the land for the cemetery for relatives and neighbors. He also gave land for the country school. He was born in Norway and came to America in 1850. Jorgen Johannessen was a Civil War veteran and the the second husband of Aavedt. He was the father of 11 children including George E.,Amanda,James,John Peter,Adolph, Gena, Caroline,Alma,Olaf,Peter and Charlie.

Many of the children were given names at their baptism that were Norwegian such as Jens which was then changed to James but they called his Jim. Charlie was Karl in the church records but his marriage and death are clearly noted as Charlie. Caroline was baptized Karen Gurine but the name became Caroline and the family called her Carrie.

Jorgen owned land in Dunn County. Section 2. N1/2SE. !st January, 1869.

The Civil War records, land records at Dodge and Dunn all note John Johnson. Gunsoe is added to the Dunn Co.land records.

DEAR ANCESTOR:
Your tombstone stands among the rest;
Neglected and alone.
The name and date are chiseled out
On polished marble stone.
It reaches out to all who care
It is to late to mourn.
You did not know that I exist
You died and I was born
Yet each of us are cells of you
In flesh, in blood, and bone.
Our blood contracts and beats a pulse
Entirely not our own.
Dear Ancestor, the place you filled
One hundred years ago
Spreads out among the ones you left
Who would have loved you so.
I wonder if you lived and loved,
I wonder if you knew
That someday I would find the spot,
And come to visit you.
