Multiple felony charges have been filed against a woman who allegedly was under the influence of cocaine and alcohol while driving a pickup involved in a fatal crash Tuesday morning.
Corina Hurtado, 50, is charged with six counts of felony operating while intoxicated, a misdemeanor charge of endangerment while operating while intoxicated, and another misdemeanor charge of leaving the scene of an accident, according to a news release from the Fort Wayne Police Department.
Hurtado is alleged to have been the driver of a pickup that struck an unoccupied vehicle at Taylor Street and Broadway around 9:15 a.m. and that she was fleeing from that crash when she collided with a minivan at the intersection of Taylor and Fairfield Avenue, according to the news release.
That crash claimed the life of 79-year-old Harold E. Bebout, of Fort Wayne. According to the Allen County Coroner's Office, Bebout died of multiple blunt-force injuries because of the crash, which was ruled accidental.
Hurtado and Bebout's wife, Starr, were in serious condition Tuesday morning, police said.
Raquel Foster, spokeswoman for the Fort Wayne Police Department, said the minivan was traveling northbound on Fairfield when it was struck by the pickup going eastbound on Taylor after the pickup failed to yield at the red light.
According to the news release, Hurtado had a blood-alcohol content of .17 percent and subsequent testing indicated the presence of cocaine.
