Thank you to D.C. for sponsoring my pretty Siamese Cat Juanita. She was a lonely little girl's best friend.
Juanita is a spanish name which means "God is gracious".
My father brought Juanita home on a cold winter night after work. He was wearing his Fireman's Uniform and had tucked her tiny kitten body into his breast pocket. When he opened his coat out popped a tiny little Siamese head with huge blue eyes.
She was suppose to be a present for my mother Lois, but we all loved her. I'm pretty sure that mom like Juanita the best since she always seemed to get a little more attention than us.
Juanita slept most of her nights on my bed and I often fell to sleep with her warm body tucked up against mine. She taught me to play fetch, I would throw the catnip mouse across the room and down a flight of stairs, she would happily run for it and bring in back to my open hand.
One night I was alone and a little creeped out since it was very late. I sat down on the stairs to wait for my parents. All of a sudden I felt something on my back. I shot up like a bullet only to find Juanita had snuck up on me and placed both her paws on my back. She simply looked at me with those slanted blue eyes and blinked in amusement. I'm still recovering.
Juanita was a wonderful traveller. We would take her with us to our weekend cabin and she slept most of the way. The photo of her in the lawnchair above was taken one of those weekends. I can remember one trip where my brother Jerry put her up on his shoulder and we went into a Dunkin Donuts and she stayed on his shoulder the whole time. No one asked us to leave - how could they.... she was so pretty sitting on a young boy's shoulder.
When my parents retired they left her with me in my tiny-tiny apartment for three months. She didn't seem to even notice that she was living in poverty with me. She took over the bed and I often found her sleeping on the kitchen table when I got home from work. The apartment seemed so empty when my parents took her back.
I simply loved this cat, she kept me company all through my early life and she was a real cuddle muffin.
She was beautiful, sweet, wonderful company, and just an all round terrific Siamese.
