DALLAS-VETERAN OF REBELLION
DALLAS - February 1st, John Steinfeldt, 82 year old Civil war veteran, died at his home In Dallas on Saturday following an illness of about two months.
Mr. Steinfeldt has been among the halest of the Grand Army men In the county. His death leaves but four Civil War veterans In Dallas.
Mr. Steinfeldt was born in Mecklenburg, Germany on March 24th, 1844, and came to America with his parents in 1853, settling in Sheboygan county, Wisconsin. In 1862 as a lad of 18 he enlisted in Company B, 27th Wisconsin volunteer infantry and remained In the service until the close of the war. He took part in the Red River expedition and saw action In the battles of Little Rock, Jenkin's Ferry, Prairie Duane, Vicksburg, and the siege of Mobile, along with many other skirmishes. He came through It all without a scar. The remainder of Mr. Steinfeldt 'a active life was spent as a farmer In Wisconsin. He came west about 23 years ago and since that time has lived in Dallas as a retired farmer.
Mr. Steinfeldt is survived by his widow, and one daughter, Mrs. Mildred Ebbe of Dallas, and four grandchildren, Harris Ebbe, Springfield, Mrs. P. F. Thomas and Mrs. Paul Smith, Seattle and Merl Ebbe, Dallas.
Funeral services will be held at 9 p. m. Monday, February 1, at the Chapman & Henkle chapel with interment in the Dallas I.O.O.F. cemetery.
