Richard Outcalt Joyce was the Pilot and Aircraft Commander for Crew 10 on the Famous Doolittle Tokyo Raid on April 18, 1942.
He entered the service on July 26, 1940 and received his pilot wings and commission at Kelly Field, Texas, March, 1941. He was assigned to the 89th Reconnaissance Squadron at McChord Field, Washington. Volunteering for the Doolittle Raid, he was pilot of Crew 10 on the raid. After the Raid he remained in China-Burma-India Theater until December, 1942 and held various Stateside assignments until being relieved from active duty on March 10, 1946. His decorations include the Distinguished Flying Cross and the Chinese Army, Navy, and Air Corps Medal, Class A, 1st Grade. He was inducted into the Nebraska Aviation Hall of Fame in 1996.
Vice-President of Henkle & Joyce Wholesale Hardware in Lincoln Nebraska for the remainder of his lifetime. Was also on the Lincoln Airport Authority for 22 years.
