My Great Grandfather~
Samuels parents were good, hard working people, sadly he lost them at a young age. Newly orphaned he and his young sisters went to live with their older married sister Johanna and her husband Rufus McClain. On a cold day in 1874 Samuel was playing behind the stove, he did something to annoy Rufus who gave the lad a whipping. Samuels sister, Ida Josephine told her Uncle Joseph about the incident, in a short time Samuel, age 7, and his sisters went to live with their Uncle Joseph Copeland & Aunt Sarah Cypert Copeland.
Samuel married Hettie Gooch in Alabama on May 5, 1889, they raised four children. Samuel was a true family man that loved his family and was very close to his sisters that had been orphaned with him. When Samuel and Hettie left Alabama they went to Texas, then to Oklahoma, they finally settled in Oklahoma City. During Samuel and Hetties' marriage they farmed, owned a general store in Davis OK., and ran a hamburger stand in Houston, TX. with their daughter Gertrude. Samuel also workd for the phone company in Oklahoma as a lineman.
He loved the outdoors, red roses, and Hettie.
