Gladys Mae (Bolton) Reitz
MOUNT PLEASANT MILLS -
Gladys Mae (Bolton) Reitz, 94, of Mount Pleasant Mills, formerly of Sunbury, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Monday, Dec. 14, 2009, at her home.
She was born Oct. 21, 1915, in Sunbury, a daughter of the late Oscar B. and Jennie (Neitz) Bolton. She was married to Wilson "Shorty" Reitz Sr., who preceded her on Feb. 13, 1976.
She was a 1934 graduate of Sunbury High School.
Gladys assisted her husband as a bookkeeper in their business, Wilson Reitz Construction, Sunbury.
She was a member of Emmanuel United Methodist Church, Mount Pleasant Mills and a member of the Mary Derr Rockefeller Auxiliary of Sunbury Community Hospital.
Gladys was a loving mother and homemaker who enjoyed quality times with her family, friends and life itself. She loved music and was faithful in sending cards to family and friends.
She is survived by three children and their spouses, Wilson Jr. and Kathleen Reitz, of Fayetteville, N.C., Sandra H. "Sandy" and Michael Mengel Sr., of Mount Pleasant Mills, and Irene R. "Renee" and Don Metzger, of Williamsport; four grandchildren, John Reitz and Tim Reitz, both of State College, Charlotte Portzline and husband, Grover, of Mount Pleasant Mills, and Holly Miller and husband, Brian, of Williamsport; eight great-grandchildren, Andria Sprenkel and husband, Fred Jr., Casey Shaffer and husband, Justin, Keri Portzline, Travis Portzline, Josh Reitz, Jamie Reitz, Zach Miller and ZoŽ Miller; one stepgrandson, Todd Metzger and his wife, Melanie; five stepgreat-grandchildren, PJ, Noah, Levi, Obi and Sydney Metzger; and several generations of nieces and nephews.
Gladys was the last of her immediate family, and she was preceded by three grandsons, Michael "Tippy" Mengel Jr. and David and Benjamin Reitz; five brothers, Paul, Wilbert "Yib," McKay, Guy and Robert Bolton; and one sister, Helen Bolton.
The family will receive friends for the viewing from 9 to 11 a.m. Friday at Emmanuel United Methodist Church, Mount Pleasant Mills, followed by the funeral at 11 with Pastor Leon G. Scholl officiating, assisted by Pastor James Lewis.
Burial will be made in Pomfret Manor Cemetery, Sunbury, at the discretion of the family.
The George P. Garman Funeral Homes, Mount Pleasant Mills, has been entrusted with the arrangements.
