Stone reads: "...Was lost Feb 3, 1843 & found dead on the 5th of the same month. Age 7 years, 10 months & 25 days. Son of Anderson and Cynthia Hayes. This grave is the oldest marked, and probably the very first at Law's Hill. A possible senario is that little Philetus wandered away from the Hayes homestead which was a distance from Law's Hill, and he was unable to long survive the February nights. His body was probably found on or near where he now rests. The next grave at Law's Hill was his mother who died two and a half years later. No other known burial until several in the 1860's and then dozens more until the turn of the century.
