Dorothy was born March 11th, 1923, in Stapleton, Nebraska, to Gilbert A. and Mabel Gale Russell. Her parents preceded her in death along with a step brother, LaVern Jensen. She married the love of her life, Newton Andrew Hamill, on September 20, 1945, in Roswell, and is survived by him at the family home.
Other survivors include two sons, Victor L. Hamill and wife Donna of Roswell, Steve Hamill and wife Jean of Hagerman; a daughter, Melanie S. Hamill of Roswell; two foster children, Barbara Smith and Anita Casaus; and sister Jean and husband Harry Anderson of Hobbs. Also surviving are four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Dorothy was a member of the South Main Church of Christ, where she was a member of the Wednesday Morning Lady's Bible Class and a member of T.O.P.S. in Roswell. Dorothy was the CFO of three family-owned corporations, cook, babysitter, Sunday school teacher and dear friend to many.
Pallbearers are grandsons Mark, Chad, Chris, and Whit Hamill; and Shane and Jason Adams.
The family request in lieu of flowers that memorials be made to Loaves and Fishes in Hagerman, N.M., and to the Portales Children's Home in Portales.
