PIONEERING OF AGED WINIFRED MATRON ENDS
Mrs. C.P. Brougher passes at age of 87-Follows early settlers through Illinois, Minnesota, Dakota and Montana
WINIFRED, July 12-Mrs. Catherine P. Brougher died at her home here at 5 o'clock a.m. Thursday, July 11, 1929, after an illness of eight months. Her demise was not a surprise to her relatives and friends for she had been failing rapidly for several days and the end came peacefully.
Catherine Palmer was born in Canton, Ohio, April 19, 1842, where she grew to womanhood. She was educated in the schools there and took an active part in many enterprises. In 1862 she was united in marriage to Peter C. Brougher, to which union three children were born. They are Arthur W. Brougher of Clyde Park, Wilder P. Brougher and Lura May Hunt of Winfred. Her husband passed on four and one-half years ago.
Mrs. Brougher was always a pioneer, following the early settlements through Illinois, Minnesota, Dakota and finally to Montana in 1915.
Early in life she became a member of the Congregational church and until the last few years took an active part in church work. She was loved by those who knew her for her cheerful disposition and kindly, sympathetic nature. Always devoted to her home and children, she will be greatly missed by all. Besides her children, she is survived by 13 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren and hosts of friends in the communities where she has lived.
The funeral services will be conducted by the Rev. Russell S. Scuder in the M.E. church this afternoon and the remains laid to rest in the family lots in Winifred cemetery. Special to the Democrat News, Lewistown Democrat News July 15, 1929
