Bruce Canning Dies of Heart Attack
Was Well Known Livingston Countian; Rites to Be Monday at Wheeling

Bruce Herbert Canning, a farmer of the Wheeling community, died unexpectedly yesterday afternoon about 4:30 at the family home which is located 3 ¾ miles northwest of Wheeling. Mr. Canning, who had been failing in health the last two months, died of a heart attack. He was 53.

Born January 14, 1914, at Hale, he was the son of T. M. Canning and Estelle (Good) Canning. He attended school at Hale and spent four years at Great Falls, Mont. The last 26 years he has been a resident of the Wheeling community.

Mr. Canning was a member of the Wheeling Baptist Church where he taught a Sunday school class and was Sunday school superintendent for six years. He served on the Wheeling School Board for nine years, the Wheeling township board, the Wheeling fire board, was president of the County Extension Council for two terms, and helped organize the leaders of the 4-H clubs.

On April 13, 1941, he married Marjorie Merle Jeffries at Hale, who survives of the home. Also surviving are four sons, Richard M. Canning and Ralph Canning of Kansas City, Marvin Canning of Ft. Leonard Wood, and Edwin Canning of the home; a brother, C. C. Canning of Chillicothe; and a sister, Mrs. Holten Rickenbrode of Avalon.

Funeral services will be held at 2 o’clock Monday afternoon at the Wheeling Baptist Church with Rev. Phillip Brewster, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in the Wheeling cemetery.

The body will lie in state at the Norman Funeral Home until noon Monday at which time it will be taken to the church to lie in state until the funeral hour.

The family will be at the funeral home tomorrow afternoon from 2 until 4 o’clock. The family requests no flowers. Contributions in Mr. Canning’s memory may be made to the Heart Fund. The Chillicothe Constitution-Tribune, April 15, 1967
