Woman killed in car crash St. Helens - A 90-year-old Portland woman was fatally injured Tuesday when the car she was driving struck another vehicle on Highway 30 at Division Road south of St. Helens.
According to the investigation Oregon State Police, a motorcycle pulled onto the highway from Division Road. In trying to avoid striking the cycle, Mabel Colvin veered into the southbound lane of traffic, striking a vehicle driven by 61-year-old Vera Wardle of St. Helens.
Colvin was taken by Life-Flight helicopter to Portland's Emanuel Hospital. She died about 6:15 p.m. Tuesday. The accident occurred at 1:45 p.m.
Wardle is reported today to be in fine condition in St. Helens Hospital. The accident is still under investigation by the OSP.

Mabel I. Colvin, 90, of 1737 S.E. 51st Ave., Portland, died Nov. 7, 1984, in a Portland hospital.
She was born in Clatskanie on Oct. 24, 1894, the daughter of Clatskanie pioneers Thomas and Gertrude Colvin.
Miss Colvin was a retired Portland school teacher and had resided in Portland since the 1930s. She was a member of the Oregon Retired Teachers Association, the National Retired Teachers Association and the Oregon Society of Artists.
She is survived by two nephews, Donald Colvin of Springfield, Ore., and Edgar Colvin of Tigard, Ore., and several cousins, including Marjory Forney, Amelia Colvin and Ralph Colvin, all of Portland.
Service are 1 p.m. Friday at Haakinson-Groulx Family Mortuary, Clatskanie. Interment will follow at Maplewood Cemetery.

Funeral for former Portland school teacher Mabel I. Colvin will be at 1 p.m. Friday in Haakinson-Groulx Funeral Home, Clatskanie. Miss Colvin died Wednesday in a Portland hospital from injuries suffered Tuesday in an automobile collision in St. Helen's. She was 90.
Miss Colvin was born in Clatskanie and graduated from Clatskanie High School. She taught school in Astoria for two years before moving to Portland, where she taught fourth, fifth and sixth grades at Failing, Kellogg and Terwilliger schools from 1919 to 1941.
She taught third grade at James John school from 1941 until retiring in 1960 and then worked a few years as a substitute teacher.
Miss Colvin was a resident of southeast Portland at the time of her death and she is a member of the National Retired schoolteachers Association, Retired Schoolteachers Association of Oregon, and the Oregon Society of Artists.
Surviving are two nephews and three cousins.
Interment will be in Maplewood Cemetery, Clatskanie.
