Bernhard Martinius Larson was born February 27, 1852, in Drammen, Norway. His parents wre Bernhard Larsen and Elen Karine Madsdatter. Bernhard went to Latin school in Drammen but quit when he was about 16 and decided to come to the United States. He served as a cabin boy on a sailing ship plying between Norway, France, Italy and finally to the U.S. It took eleven weeks to make the trip.
Sometime before 1883, Bernhard moved to Clay County, Minnesota, working as a miller for a woman who operated a flour mill on the Buffalo River near Hawley. This lady was sponsoring Norwegian immigrants to America, and one of the young immigrants to arrive was a lovely girl by the name of Elise Saxhaug. Bernhard and Elise were married in 1884.
The next 20 years were busy and challenging, moving several times—Hawley, Fargo, Croll Mill, Lake Park, Moorhead, Comstock, then finally settling down on a farm in Wolverton in 1905. In 1920, they moved to Puyallup, Washington, to be near their daughter, Ella, as well as other relatives.

Bernhard and Elise had nine children:
Ella Marie born May 8, 1885.
Edwin Bernhard born November 19, 1886.
George Norman born February 22, 1889.
Lewis Gunerius burn June 16, 1892.
Roy born July 18, 1894.
William Eugene born August 18, 1897.
Harold Morton born July 10, 1900.
Reuben Sigvald born June 14, 1902.
Thorleif Otis born February 10, 1905.

Elise died in Puyallup, Washington, on February 25, 1925. Bernhard died January 26, 1926 in Poulsbo, Washington. They are buried in Tacoma Cemetery.
