Charles Eugene Flandrau was a lawyer who came to Saint Paul, Minnesota in 1853. He was a member of the Minnesota Constitutional Convention of 1857. He was appointed associate justice of the Territorial Supreme Court by President Buchanan also in 1857. He was also elected to the first Minnesota State Supreme Court. He was a captain in the Union Army during the Civil War and participated in the 1862 battle with the Sioux at New Ulm.
