SULLIVAN - Donald "Donnie" D. Boos, 73, died unexpectedly on Tuesday, Feb. 9, 2010.
He was born on July 5, 1936, and raised as one of seven children on the family farm of Dewey and Gussie Boos in Rome. He graduated from Jefferson High School in 1954.
He married Janice Wille in 1957.
Don was a highly skilled concrete mason. He worked for 46 years for Arthur Thomas Construction, Palmyra, specializing in fireplaces.
In his younger years, Donnie played on Rome's baseball team, and continued to attend Sullivan and Rome ball games throughout most of his life.
He was a longtime member of the Sullivan Fire Department, still listening to the scanner every day.
Don had been ill in his later years, but still kept his sense of humor. His humor, practical jokes and clowning will be remembered by all those who knew him. A mason among four carpenter brothers, he could easily be identified by the presence of his crooked pipe. And who could forget his hearty laughter?
Donnie's many hobbies and interests included tending to his very large garden over the years, bird feeding/watching, jigsaw puzzles and, in later life, fishing. He was a devoted Packers and Brewers fan, loved to play cards and was a lifelong bowler.
Throughout his life he enjoyed polka music and polka dancing with his wife Janice, as well as classic country music. He also took particular delight in spending time with his two young granddaughters, Sam and Alli Boos.
Don and Janice Boos celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in 2007. The extended Boos family is close knit, and Donnie very much enjoyed family gatherings.
He is survived by his wife, Janice, of Sullivan; three children, Cheryl (David) Streich of Watertown, Robert (Patricia) Boos of Oconomowoc and James (Elizabeth) Boos of Sullivan; two grandchildren, Samantha and Allison Boos of Sullivan; and four brothers in Rome.
Don was preceded in death by his father, mother and two sisters.
Visitation will be held from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 13, at St. John's Lutheran Church, W407 Highway 18, Sullivan, with a memorial service and burial immediately following.
Memorials to the Sullivan Volunteer Fire Department, Sullivan EMS or UW Cancer Center-Johnson Creek are appreciated.
"Until we meet again, Daddy, thank you for always being there for all of us.
With love from your Family."
