|Death: ||Apr. 19, 1855|
A gifted Black musician. He had been owned by Dr. Howard Davies, until the townspeople raised a subscription to give him his freedon. His gift for music, his skill with his fife and his courteous manners made him an outstanding figure not only in Lynchburg life buy also throughout the state. At balls and parties he furnished the music, at the head of military parades his fife accompanied the drummer, and on moonlight nights, which he especially loved, his plaintive notes delighted his hearers. He died of pneumonia, and the whole town mourned his death.
