Birth: Aug. 14, 1818, Germany
Death: Jan. 27, 1907
Allamakee County
Iowa, USA

Was born in Sulzbach, Saarbruecken, Germany, Aug. 14, 1818. At the age of 24 years he came to America, and was married in Dansville, New York, Nov 11, 1844, to Miss Marie Fults. They settled in Wisconsin, came to Iowa in 1869, and have lived in Allamakee and Winneshick counties for a number of years residing near Volney where he followed the occupation of farming. Eleven children were born to them- Mrs. Louisa Buchwald, Christ, William, Margaret, Amelia, Catherine, Mrs. Mary Frantzen, Mrs. Elizabeth Durno, Mrs. Carrie Harvey, Henry and Frank. Margaret, Amelia and Catherine died in youth and Mrs. Buchwald passed away last August, and Mr. Lukenbill failed perceptibly from that time until the day of his death. In his young manhood Mr Lukenbill united with the Evangelical Lutheran church, and he was so long as age and health permitted, an attendant upon services of the church located nearest him, but not finding a church of his faith did not identify himself with any local organization in Iowa.

He died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. W. E. Durno, in Postville, Iowa. Jan. 27, 1897, aged 88 years, 8 months, and 18 days, leaving a wife and seven children. The funeral was held from the home on Wednesday afternoon, Jan 20th, conducted by Rev. F. W. Pease of the Congregational church. Interment Postville Cemetery.

Mr. Lukenbill was an honest and industrious man and a good citizen, an indulgent and devoted husband and father, and in the fullness of years has been called to his reward.

We hereby return our heartfelt and sincere thanks to the neighbors and friends for their kind assistance during the illness and burial of our beloved husband and father; also to the choir for their songs. Mrs. D Lukenbill, Mrs. W. E. Durno.
