ROBERT A BADLEY DEAD
Robert A. Badley, an old veteran of the Civil War and pioneer of this section, died in Boise, Tuesday morning after an operation for bladder trouble. Mr. Badley was a member of the G.A.R. post and made his home in Sweet. He was well known here and leaves a host of friends. The funeral services will be held in Sweet today under the direction of Undertaker Buckman.

... and was a charter member of the Emmett post, in which he had held all the offices and had served in official positions in the state department of the Grand Army. He was an enthusiastic and devoted Odd Fellow, and a member of the Methodist church at Sweet. As a man and citizen he was patriotic, public spirited, fearless in the discharge of his duties and possessing high ideals of life. His life was one of honor and usefulness to his to his neighbors and his country. He was esteemed by all who knew him. He is survived by his wife (Sarah Eckroat), six children, all grown, and three brothers, D.L. Badley of Boise, L. H. Badley of Meridian, and W. S. Badley of Pendleton. The body was taken to Sweet yesterday and the funeral will be held today under the auspices of the Odd Fellows. A member of his comrades in the Grand Army and his brother Odd Fellows will attend from this city.

The sad news of the death of one of our foremost Citizens, Honorable Robert A. Badley, came as a shock to our city this week. Last Monday evening at 11:40 o'clock Mr. Badley passed into the great beyond of eternal rest, after spending 68 years of adventure and romance in this world. As it is close onto the time of going to press we are unable to find out some things of special note, but the two following reprints from Boise papers give us much of the desired information.

In this city Tuesday morning there passed into the great beyond Robert A. Badley of Sweet after an operation for bladder trouble. Mr Badley was one of the pioneers of Idaho. Born in Indiana 68 years ago and enlisted in the 3rd Colorado Calvary in 1862 and served during the Civil War. He attained no small degree of fame as an Indian fighter on the plains, after the war he lied for a time in Iowa but went to Kansas in 1870 and from there to the Boise Valley. Later he went to the Grand Ronde Valley, Oregon, where he remained for almost a year, then came back to what is now known as Sweet where he has lived since. Mr. Badley is a member of the John C. Fremont post G.A.R. of Emmett and also a member of the Odd Fellows and of the Methodist Episcopal Church. In G.A.R. of Emmett he is known as one of its most prominent and useful members. He is a brother of D.L. Badley of this city and H.L. Badley of Meridian and W.S. of Pendleton, Ore. His wife and six children survive him. The remains were taken to Sweet for Burial. The deceased was well known and loved among all who knew him and loved by those who knew him best. He stood always for the best and highest things in his community. He was a recognized leader there and his word and life stood always for humanity, for law and order, for kindness, benevolence and justice. His life was crowned with usefulness and honor and his death was peaceful and serene as the dawning of the morning.

Robert A. Badley of the Civil War and a pioneer of southern Idaho since 1876 died shortly before midnight last night at St Luke's hospital. He was 68 years of age. During the Civil War he served with the 3rd Colorado Calvary. He was active in the G.A.R. and was a charter member of the John C. Fairmont post of Emmett. Mr. Badley, for a number of years lived on a ranch at Sweet and was a highly esteemed citizen in that county. He has been a justice of the Peace for a number of terms and was a prominent member of the Methodist Episcopal Church, and also an Odd Fellows Lodge. He is survived by his wife and six children, all grown, and three brothers, D.L. Badley of Boise, L. H. Badley of Meridian, and W. S. Badley of Pendleton. The body will be taken to Sweet tomorrow morning and the funeral held Thursday morning at 10 o'clock. Burial will be in Sweet Cemetery.
