66, DIES HERE

SERVED WITH CITY WATER
DEPARTMENT SINCE 1908;
WAS RESIDENT HERE FOR
OVER 30 YEARS.
Lester J. Gazeley, a well known
and respected citizen of this com-
munity where he lived for over 30
years, passed away in his home at
340 Ninth street north at 12:50 o'-
clock Sunday morning. He was 66
years of age.
--Funeral Wednesday--
Funeral services will be held at
1:45 o'clock Wednesday afternoon
from the First Congregational
church, the Rev. Frederick W. Hy-
slop officiating. Interment will be
in the Forest Hill cemetery.
Mr. Gazeley was born on Novem-
ber 20, 1868, at Durand, Wis., the
son of Joseph and Anna (Lester)
Gazeley. He came here in 1903 when
he purchased the Chambers cream-
ery, the first creamery in this city.
In 1906 he sold his interests in the
concern and took a position as stat-
ionary engineer for the Kaudy Man-
ufactoring company here.
In the spring of 1908 Mr. Gaze-
ley began working for the city as
assistant to Fred Piffer, superin-
tendent of the water department,
and after Mr. Piffer's death he took
over the duties of his predecessor,
holding that position up to the time
of his death.
--Wife, 7 Children Survive--
On October 8, 1891, Mr. Gazeley
was married at Durand, Wis., to
Clara Atkins, to which union eight
children, one daughter of whom pre-
ceded her father in death, were
born. Mrs. Gazeley, together with
the following seven children, sur-
vive:
Willis of Milwaukee; Arthur, Les-
lie and Charles of this city; Mrs.
Dave Beier of Rhome, N. D.; Mrs.
Paul Patnod of Milwaukee; and
Mrs. Earl Peckham of this city. In
addition, there are the following
four brothers and three sisters: Guy,
Dog Pound, Canada; Joe of Nekoo-
sa; Perie of Calgary, Canada;
George, Smithers, British Columbia;
Mrs. John Bonde of Arlington, S.
D.; Mrs. Anna Newcomb of St. Paul,
Minn.; and Mrs. Harry Johnston of
Madison, Wis. There are also 12
grandchildren.
The body will lie at the Baker
chapel until time for the services.
