Samuel Grigsby parents were Nathaniel B Grigsby 1805 1859 and Elizabeth Jane Louderbac 1808 1871. his known siblings were: John Grigsby 1825; Minerva Grigsby 1831; Henry Grigsby 1834 1891; Winnifred Grigsby 1838; Elizabeth Jane Grigsby 1842 1890; Lavina Grigsby 1842 1898 Serena Grigsby 1842; James David Grigsby 1849 1889 and Jesse Grigsby 1893.

On Nov. 30, 1858 Samuel chose Susan Kite to be his bride. This marriage was blessed with 5 children. They were: Frances Jane GRIGSBY 1860 1937; George H. GRIGSBY 1862 1892;Elizabeth "Eliza" C. GRIGSBY 1862; James D. GRIGSBY 1865 and Matilda E. Grigsby 1870 1871.

Samuel served as Private, in Company B of the Sixtieth Tennessee Volunteer Infantry Regiment, on the side of the Confederate States Army during the American Civil War. He enlisted in 1862, and was discharged in 1865.

In the 1870 census was found that the first 4 of Samuel and Susan's children had been born. They were living in Persia. Samuel's brother, Jesse Grigsby was living on an joining farm. Samuel was a farmer and they had an estate of $750.00 and $300.00 in personal property. On the other side of there farm was at least 5 of Susan's Kite families.

On Sept. 15 1870, Susan gave birth to a baby girl. They named her Matilda. Jun. 1, 1871 was a very sad day for Samuel and Susan, and their siblings. History gives no cause of death for the little one. Her grieving father and mother chose a grave site in the Kite Cemetery for her burial. Her family and their friend gathered around the little coffin of their precious tiny Angel, to bid their baby to Rest in Peace.

June 1, 1897, Susan was saddened by the death of her dear husband, Samuel Grigsby. The cause of his death is not known. Samuel's burial site was chosen near his baby Matilda, in the beautiful Kite Cemetery. Grief stricken Susan, with the support of her family and friend gathered at his plot to bid her beloved, Samuel farewell. (bio by Audrey DeCamp Hoffman)
