Per the History of Upson County, Georgia (Nottingham/Hannah, 1930), p. 862: "James ANDREWS was 3rd Sergeant in Co. D 13th Ga. Regiment. He drew pensions for his services in the War Between the States and in the Mexican War. He is buried in Glenwood Cemetery, Thomaston." He died after 1889 (see signed pension application below), most likely in Upson County.

The order of the text does not make it clear, but evidently he is the James ANDREWS who m1. 17 OCT 1839 in Upson Co, GA, to Achsah M. HOLLOWAY, by whom he had the following children: Frances A. E. "Fannie" (m. 04 OCT 1871 in Upson to Leonard S. HILL), James, William, Nancy, Virginia C. (m. 13 APR 1869 in Upson to John D. CARAWAY), Mary, Robert Capers (m. 20 DEC 1880 in Upson to Alice Ann WILLIAMS), and Thomas A ANDREWS. James m2. 04 JUL 1867 in Upson Co. to Frances E. "Bettie" CARAWAY, by whom he had: Effie A. (m. 16 NOV 1886 in Upson to Marshall RICHARDSON), Lydia, Clara, Samuel C. (d. 1912), and Magruder ANDREWS.

Per pension application: James ANDREWS had been a bona fide citizen and resident of said State of Georgia since 14 SEP 1818. He enlisted as a Lieutenant in Company D, 13th Regiment, Georgia Infantry, Gordon's Brigade, and while engaged in the Battle of Sharpsburg, Md., on 17 SEP 1862, was "wounded as follows: [Struck] In the body by a Minnie ball, penetrating near to & _ inches to the left of the lower part of the breast bone, also in the right hand. In rail road collision in 1864, his ^ left hand & arm were crushed so badly as to render it entirely useless. He also received internal injuries and other bruises which have paralyzed his legs. He is unable to walk or use his hands and is entirely bedridden. Cannot even feed himself." Signed James his-X-mark Andrews, 09 FEB 1889 in Upson County, Georgia, Superior Court.
