Former Alaska resident Robert ''Bob'' W. Clark, 71, died June 12, 1997, at his home in Newberg, Ore. A memorial service was held at the Church of Christ in Newberg with Milo Hadwin officiating. Arrangements are in care of Attrell's Newberg Chapel.

Mr. Clark was born to Wellington and Evlyn (Marks) Clark on Oct. 7, 1925, in Denver. He moved to Hillsboro with his family, where he graduated from high school in 1944. After graduation, he joined the Naval Air Corps and served in the South Pacific. He was honorably discharged on Oct. 31, 1945, and was awarded the Presidential Unit Citation. On May 19, 1946, he married Margaret McIlwrath. They then came to Newberg, where Mr. Clark worked for Bussey's Bakery until 1951, when he reenlisted in the Naval Air Corps for the Korean conflict. Mr. Clark served in the Aleutians Islands, Alaska, and was honorably discharged in February 1953. Shortly thereafter, the family moved to Alaska, where they lived for the next 30 years. During that time, Mr. Clark owned and operated Clark's Bakery and Fine Foods for 10 years until 1967. He also worked for the Alaska government as a baker for oil crews for many years, and later worked for the University of Alaska as a food service instructor for 10 years. In 1986, he moved to Vancouver, Wash., where he served as food service manager for Columbia Christian College for two years until he retired in 1988. He was a master baker of the American Bakers' Association. He and his wife returned to Newberg in 1991. After their retirement, they took up golf, fishing, boating and traveling. He also enjoyed flying, hunting, painting, photography and reading. He was a member and elder of Newberg Church of Christ and congregations in Alaska and Washington and spent considerable time studying scripture.

Surviving are his wife, Margaret of Newberg; daughter, Linda Judd of Newberg; brother, Harry Clark of Austin, Texas; two sisters, Carolyn Crismore of Texas and Thelma Cantrell of McMinnville, Ore.; and two grandsons, Christopher Judd of Abilene, Texas, and Timothy Judd of Newberg. He was preceded in death by his son, Bobby. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Vincent Hospice c/o Attrell's Newberg Funeral Chapel, 200 Villa Road, Newberg, Ore. 97132-1891.
