Salah ad Din, Iraq
Chief Petty Officer Wade joined the Navy after graduating from Little Wolf High School in Manawa, Wisconsin, in 1987. In school he wrestled, played football and was on the track team as a runner. He had wanted to become a Navy SEAL, and when that did not work out, he joined the explosives team. He was assigned to Explosive Ordnance Disposal Mobile Unit 11 as a Navy explosives technician, and was based at Naval Air Station Whidbey Island, Washington. Pat married Keri Lynn York in 2002 and was the father of two young daughters. During his career in the Navy he had been everywhere from the Far East to the Middle East. He helped recover debris from the second space shuttle explosion, sometimes using dolphins, and had trained with German Navy divers to recover munitions from WWII. He was 38 years of age when he was killed by a roadside bomb in Samarra, Iraq. Pat is survived by his wife; his daughters, Noelle, and Esme; his mother, Shirley; brothers Scott and Gary; a sister Cheryl; and numerous other friends and relatives. An older half-brother, 37-year-old Bob, was killed in a helicopter accident in 1993 in Japan while serving in the Air Force. It was Pat's wish that his ashes be scattered over Bear Lake where he grew up and had so many fond memories. Patrick was posthumously awarded the Bronze Star with a V for valor and a Purple Heart.
