Son of Reuben Rowland Wilmer & Sarah "Sallie" Stinnett. 1st married Dorothea Margaret "Dolly" North; 2nd married Eliza E. Brockman.

Bradford enlisted at Camp Lee on 11 Sep 1863 in Company D, 19th Battalion Regiment of Virginia Heavy Artillery. Upon enlistment, he was recorded as being a 41 year old Farmer; 5'7"; florid complexion, gray eyes; and light hair. On the 30 Nov 1863, Bradford was discharged due to disability. He was suffering from chronic dyspepsia (indigestion) and functional disease of the heart. Even though he had been discharged; Bradford reenlisted sometime in 1864 in Company H, 19th Regiment Virginia Infantry. While in the Infantry he was captured and became a Prisoner of War. He was paroled at Amherst Court House on 29 May 1865.

The Appomattox Chapter 11, United Daughters of the Confederacy dedicated an Iron Cross on Sunday, 04 May 2008, with over 100 Family Members in attendance.
