Kermit H. Bjorge

Kermit Bjorge, age 71 of Brooten, died July 4, 2012 at the Glacial Ridge Hospital in Glenwood. A memorial service will be held at 1:00 P.M. on Saturday, July 7th at Trinity Lutheran Church in Brooten with Pastor Bryant Kaden officiating. Visitation will be on Friday, July 6th from 5 - 7 p.m. at the Hoplin-Hitchcock Funeral Home in Brooten and will continue one hour prior to the service at the church on Saturday. Inurnment will be in the South Lake Johanna Cemetery. Arrangements are with the Hoplin-Hitchcock Funeral Home in Brooten.

Kermit was born in Brooten, MN to Carl Bjorge and Alvina (Westrude) Bjorge on April 22, 1941. He was confirmed at South Lake Johanna Church, and graduated from Brooten High School in 1959. Kermit entered the Army in 1959, and served most of his term at Fort Hood, Texas.

He was united in marriage to Helen Ione Lewis on July 3, 1964, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Brooten, and they made their home on the family farm in Lake Johanna Township. He worked for Glenwood Manufacturing until his retirement. In addition, Kermit served as the Treasurer to the Lake Johanna Township Board for thirty years.

Kermit was a Jack of all Trades, and could fix almost anything; many a friend and neighbor relied on his expertise. Known as an avid historian, he could retain and recite more information about others' history than they knew about themselves. He loved to spend his days on his beloved farm, and you would find him there, everyday, in suspenders and bandana, tending his garden with his constant companions, Jake and Hazel. He was proud of his Norwegian heritage and was a self-taught musician, playing the accordion and organ with ease and by memory.

Kermit loved to hunt deer in the fall, an annual tradition he shared with his daughter and grandson. More than anything, Kermit loved to spend time with his family and friends, and always had a cup of coffee ready for whoever happened to be in the neighborhood and stopped by.

He died on July 4, 2012, at Glacial Ridge Hospital in Glenwood, at the age of 71. He will be greatly missed.

Kermit is survived by his wife, 2 daughters, 3 grandchildren, and a great-grandson, along with several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Carl and Alvina Bjorge; a brother, Ardell; 3 sisters Adeline Bjorge, Violet Anderson and Clarice Bensend; and a niece, Cheryl Enos.

Kermit's paternal grandparents are:

Knut Bjorge and
Kirsten Marie Thorson Bjorge
