A harness maker by trade, & prominent citizen, he lived in numerous places in VT & NH. He served with the NH 5th Regiment (Co. I, unit 1207) during the Civil War. He outlived three wives.
He married Luella Lamphere (1847-1885) on Sep. 7, 1865 in Canaan, VT. > Children: Alice Jane "Jennie" (1867-1924), Ellsworth H. (1873-), Ida Luella (1876-1954)
He married Cora (Ainsworth) Whitehill on Oct. 13, 1885 in Groton, VT. > Children: William Charles (1886-1967), Ernest Elbridge (1888-1957), Frank Martin (1890-1976), Leslie Orwell (1894-1949), Allen Walter (1896-1966)
He married Leora Copp on Sep. 2, 1903 in Bath, NH. > Children: Henry Horace (1905-), Eva A. (1906-), Edith (1910-1999)
Brother of Henry, Amos, Martha, Eliza, and Polly.
Note: 1) His death record says he was buried in St. Johnsbury, but he is actually interred with his wife Cora. 2) He is officially listed as having deserted the Army, but he was out ill with typhoid fever when his regiment disbanded.
