Doyle Garvin first came to Brookings with his father in 1912. He returned to Boulder, Colorado to pick up farm machinery, and moved permanently to the Oregon coast in 1917.
Doyle graduated from Brookings: Harbor High School.
After living on a dairy farm up the Chetco River, first on the south bank and later on the north bank, the family moved to another dairy farm in Smith River after their son, Glenn's freshman year in high school.
