The Hazel H. Smith scholarship is available to a Bowling Green State University off-campus or commuting full time undergraduate student for use during the Fall 2013 academic year. This scholarship is awarded in memory of Hazel H. Smith, a former BGSU student who was instrumental in the evolution of an area that would be known as the Off-Campus Student Center. Mrs. Smith, a pioneer in the field of commuter centers became the first full-time administrator of the program in 1967 and served in this capacity until shortly before her death in 1986. On April 14, 1989, the program was named in her honor. In 2002, the program moved to its new location in the Bowen-Thompson Student Union and was renamed Off-Campus Student Services. The heart of the services, The Hazel H. Smith Lounge, is now located on the second floor of the Bowen-Thompson Student Union.
