WILLIAM BASQUIN--94: died Friday morning [5-19] at the PineHaven Nursing Home at Mor-rison, where he had been since last June when he fell & broke a hip. He &his wife have owned & operated the Queen Hotel here for the past 15 years. MrBasquin was born 25 Mar 1867 in Thompson OH. When he was 7 years old his father took the family to Kansas, taking up homestead land near Woodruff; he grew up in the Woodruff area.
MrBasquin was married in Woodruff in 1898, later moving with his wife to Laird, a small farm community in eastern Colorado near the Kasnas-Nebraska line. He operated a farm produce business at Laird for several years & also lived for a time at nearby Wray. About 1942 Mr&Mrs Basquin moved to Denver where they operated various hotels for 4 years. They came to Idaho Springs in 1946, purchasing the Queen hotel here. Mr Basquin had been in failing health for the past 8 or 10 years & the major share in the operation of the hotel had fallen to Mrs Basquin.
He is survived by his wife Olive Basquin-of this city; 4 daughters: Viola Bashford-Wray CO; Julia Stroud-Conifer CO; Lela Whitten-Lamar CO; Faye Fluckey-Denver CO; a sister: Lila Carrier-Bakersfield CA; 6 grandchildren & 6 gr grandchildren.
Services were held Monday morning [5-22] in the chapel of Tomford mortuary with Rev William Garner-pastor of the First Presbyterian Church of this city officiating. Burial was in Fairmount Cemetery in Denver.
