Kenneth R. Powers Sr., 87, of Crystal Lake, died Wednesday, Dec. 31, 2003, at The Fountains of Crystal Lake.

He was born May 25, 1916, to David and Mabel (Doherty) Powers of McHenry, He married Mildred Sommers on Oct. 26, 1940, in Clinton, Iowa.

He was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church in Woodstock. He farmed for many years in the Crystal Lake area. After farming, he worked for 20 years at Vulcan Materials. He enjoyed fishing.

He is survived by two sons, Kenneth Powers Jr. of Round Lake Beach and Ronald (Eileen) Powers of Woodstock; two daughters, Judith (Donald) Tibbits and Patricia Diedrick, both of Woodstock; eight grandchildren, John Tibbits, Susan Starr, Steven Eckert, Scott (Kathy) Eckert, Melissa (Jay) Kizer, Emily Powers, Anna Powers and Todd Powers; in addition to many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, on July 23, 1993; five brothers, William, George, David, Jack and Joseph; and a sister, Dorothy Whiting.

Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m., Monday, Jan. 5, at Schneider-Leucht-Merwin & Cooney Funeral Home, 1211 N. Seminar Ave., Woodstock. The prayer vigil service will be conducted there at 7 p.m. The Mass of the Resurrection will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 6, in St. Patrick of Hartland Catholic Church, 15012 St. Patrick Road, Woodstock. Monsignor James McLoughlin will preside. Burial will be in Calvary Catholic Cemetery in Woodstock.
