Thomas James Caves, Jr., age 91, of Belleville, MI, passed away on Monday, August 13, 2012 at Oakwood Hospital-Annapolis Center, Wayne, MI, surrounded by his family. Mr. Caves was born February 23, 1921 in McKeesport, Pennsylvania to the late Thomas J. and Mary (Lloyd) Caves, Sr.
Mr. Caves proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy during WWII. He retired from Kelsey-Hayes as a Tool and Die Maker after many years of loyal service. He was a member of the Wayne Masonic Lodge and another lodge in Wilsonville, Oregon. He was also very active with the Shiners. He enjoyed wood carving, stained glass and decorating cakes. Most of all, he loved being a Grandpa.
He was married for over 73 years to the love of his life Elizabeth Jane (Myers) Caves. He is also survived by five children; Barbara Jane (Larry) Atkin of Covington, Virginia, Mary Lou (Kent) Hazelwood of Stayton, Oregon, Susan (Merv) Auchtung of Holland, MI, Timothy Caves of Belleville and Terry Jay (Kim) Caves of Plymouth, MI, 14 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild. He was preceded in death by his parents, also two sisters Doris and Eleanor.
Visitation will be 3-8 PM Thursday and 10-11 AM Friday, August 17, 2012 with an 11 AM Funeral at Memorial Church of Christ, 35475 Five Mile Road, Livonia, MI. Pastor Mark McGilvery will officiate. Arrangements by David C. Brown Funeral Home, Belleville, MI.
