Washington Lafayette Fallwell
Birth: Jan. 27, 1852
Mount Enterprise
Rusk County
Texas, USA
Death: Feb. 2, 1925
Hereford
Deaf Smith County
Texas, USA

The following is an excerpt from a letter written in 1948 by John Fallwell who was the son of William Miles Fallwell, Washington's brother. The letter was written to John's sons for genealogy purposes:

"Washington Lafayette Fallwell was born at Mount Enterprise, Rusk County, Texas. His wife was Josephine Chadwick. He was a rancher (not farmer) in Greer County (Texas/Oklahoma), at that time a part of Texas, and also later in the Texas Panhandle. He had moved over to Texas after Greer County was awarded to Oklahoma/Indian Territory by the Federal Courts (this happened in 1896). He ran cattle on the open range near the present town of Friona and homesteaded there. Was later a grain and coal dealer in Hereford, Deaf Smith County, Texas where he died and was buried in the 1920's. He had visited my father in Gladewater a few years earlier. They had four sons: Willie, Orville, Claude and one other whose name I do not recall (note: the other son was Clarage). Willie remained in Hereford/Friona and died some time after his father's death. Some of Willie's descendents now live in the vicinity of Friona/Hereford. Orville and Claude at last reports were managing a Co-Op Fruit Growers Exchange at Lewiston, Idaho. One of Claude's sons was in Seattle with a fruit company importing bananas from West Coast of Central and South America. One of Claude's grandsons was at Iwo Jima (Marines). You should remember when Claude visited us on Richmond Avenue. He told some tall tales--some true--about bears in the Yellowstone."
