This young girl was killed in an auto / electric train (interurban) accident on New Haven Road while a passenger in a car driven by her father, William W. Ihrig, an auto salesman. The car was entering the driveway when the accident occurred. According to the report the father was familiar with the train schedule but one coming at this time of day was unexpected; it turned out to be a special run that was returning to the train yards after a trip from Indianapolis to Niagara Falls. The train motorman sounded the whistle but did not apply the brakes right away, thinking the auto would clear the crossing in time.
The car was hit on the passenger side, and the occupants were thrown fifty feet from the vehicle with the young girl's head striking a railroad tie upon impact. The father was actually able to stand up and walk to the house after the accident. He was later checked out and released from Hope Methodist (Now Parkview) Hospital. Info from The August 4th, 1916 edition of The Fort Wayne Journal-Gazette.
