~A Dog's Plea ~
"My friend, when I am very old and I no longer enjoy good health, hearing and sight, do not make heroic efforts to keep me going. I am not having any fun. Please see to it that my life is taken gently. I shall leave this Earth knowing with the last breath I draw that my fate was always safest in your hands."
We adopted Shelby from a farm in Calavaras County,CA. She and her sister were the only two puppies left. Shelby immediately came over and started jumping and licking the kids, as if to say "I pick you, now let's go home". So we did, and Shelby has been a part of the family ever since. She taught herself to sit up and beg. That was just one of the many things she learned to do.
She gave us unconditional love.
She enjoyed trips to the cabin in Twain Harte, and she would go anywhere with us even though she hated riding in the car.
Shelby had a hole in her heart when she was born on a scale of 1 to 10 (10 being the worst) hers was a 9 and the vet didn't think she'd live past a year, she proved them wrong. In her later years, Shelby had Cushings, (a tumor in the pituitary gland) and she just got weaker and weaker not being able to eat.
We will miss her and always remember her unconditional love for us. I love you Sweet Pea, you'll always be my Honey Bunny. Love you Shelby.
Aged 11 years 5 mos. 17 days.
"BLESSED IS THE PERSON WHO HAS EARNED THE LOVE OF AN OLD DOG."
