J. T. WILKES TO BE BURIED AT 5 P.M.
Rites at Nebo Methodist Church for Prominent Merchant of Sawdust
Funeral services for Joseph T. Wilkes, aged 65, prominent merchant of Sawdust Valley, will be held this afternoon at 5 o'clock at the Nebo Methodist Church. The Rev. O. H. Lane, pastor, will conduct the services.
Mr. Wilkes died yesterday afternoon at 2 p.m. at his home at Sawdust after being ill for several weeks. He was the son of the late James W. and Tennie Caldwell Wilkes and was born and reared in Maury County. He had operated a store at Sawdust for a number of years and had also served as a magistrate in that district for several years. He was a lifelong member of the Methodist Church and for a long span of years was a leader in every civic and religious enterprise of his community.
Surviving are one daughter, Miss Rachel Wilkes; a son, Joe Frank Wilkes; a grandson, Frank Gilbreath Wilkes; and two sisters, Mrs. Ella Harmon of Manchester and Mrs. Ethel Mayberry of Pasadena, Cal.
Serving as pallbearers will be Goff Kinzer, Leslie White, Hughes Kinzer, Ozro Redding, Roy Sargent, and George Walker.
Burial will be in Nebo Cemetery with Oakes & Nichols Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
