Rachel Caldwell Wilkes, 90, of Pensacola died Wednesday, February 1, 1995 at her residence.

Miss Wilkes was a native of Columbia, Tenn. And had lived in Pensacola for 16 years. She graduated from the University of Tennessee in 1930. She taught elementary and high school in Columbia until 1943. In 1944, she began a career as a librarian at the Centralia, ILL. High school and from 1965 10 1972 was Director of Library Services, Kaskaskia College, Centralia. Among the many organizations in which she was active were the American Library Association, National Education Association, Delta Kappa Gamma and the Business and Professional Women's Club.

During her years in Pensacola, she was an active member of First United Methodist Church, teaching Sunday School and participating in a mission trip to Haiti.

Her survivors include her nephew, Frank G. Wilkes and his wife Carol; her sister-in-law, Verna G. Wilkes; and her great-nieces, Kristin L. Wilkes of Montgomery, Ala., Pamela K. Stevens, Dana C. Haig and Wendy L. Stevens, all of San Diego.

Visitation will be 3 to 5 p.m. today at Harper-Morris Memorial Chapel. A memorial service will be held 11 a.m. Monday, Feb. 6 at First United Methodist Church with D. Henry E. Roberts officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Nebo Cemetery, Williamsport, Tenn.

The family request that in lieu of flowers, donations in her memory be made to the First United Methodist Church of Pensacola.

Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Stringfield Sunday School Class of First United Methodist Church.
