Odell (Rumsey) Rippy
Funeral services for Odell (Rumsey) Rippy, of Stidham, who died Saturday, Jan. 14, 2006, were at 2 today at Gregg Chapel with the Rev. Charles Story officiating, assisted by the Rev. Gene Cook. Burial was at Rumsey Family Cemetery in Stidham. Funeral arrangements were under the direction of Gregg Funeral Home. She was 84.
Born Feb. 24, 1921, in Stidham, she was the daughter of Edmon and Rachel (Sinor) RUMSEY. She was a 1940 graduate of Stidham High School and married Samuel Vaston Rippy on Feb. 21, 1941, at Hammer's Service Station in Eufaula. Mr. Hammers was the minister.
She was a retired school teacher, teaching at Fame, Bower, Eufaula, Stidham, Keota, Quinton, Pierce, Checotah and Dustin.
She was a lifetime member of the Stidham Baptist Church. She was also a member of the Oklahoma Education Association, National Education Association and Oklahoma Vocational Homemakers of America.
Survivors include three sons, Vaston "Chunkey" Rippy, of Eufaula, Ronnie and wife, Jo Ann Rippy, of Indianola, and Toney and Diane Rippy, of Eufaula; her grandchildren, Sheila Rippy. Shane and Keli Rippy. Jason and Lori Rippy, Chris Rippy, Andrea and John Capps, Marla and Jimmy Harwood, Kerri and Chad Metcalf, Delicia and Kelly White, and Rachael and Shane Harjo.
Also, her great-grandchildren, Hannah and Dalton Rippy, Keegan and Reagan Dickens, Jacob and Caleigh Rippy, Ryan and Drew Capps, Addyson Harwood, Jayce Metcalf, Micah and Ethan White, and Olivia Rippy.
And, six sisters-in-law, Meldred Swearingen, of McAlester, Madalyn Rumsey, of Eufaula, Jewell Dean Rumsey, Denison, Texas, Patsy Rumsey, of Moore, Wilma Rippy, of Preston, and Maxine Rippy, of Eufaula, and numerous nieces, nephews and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; an infant brother, Edward Rumsey; one sister, Genetta Walkup, and her brothers, Orlen, Willie (Bill), and Delmon Rumsey.
Pallbearers were Shane Rippy, Jason Rippy, Kelly White, Shane Harjo, John Capps, Jimmy Harwood and Chad Metcalf.
Honorary pallbearers were W.R. Carey, T.C. Edwards, Charles Cunningham, Robert Joe Cunningham and Madalyn Rumsey.
Memorials may be made to Stidham Baptist Church Building Fund.
