Samuel Wilson Tucker was the husband of Mary Bettie Harned Tucker and the father of Clyde LeRoy Tucker, Walter Gordon (Bud) Tucker, Mary Beulah Tucker Nelson, Eva Christine Tucker Cole, and Harned Randolph Tucker. He was the son of Charles B. and Amanda E. Wilson Tucker. He is my grandfather.
DEATH CLAIMS PIONEER BANKER, CIVIC LEADER
Funeral services were held at 2:30 p.m. Sunday at the First Methodist church for S. W. Tucker, 87, who passed away Friday morning in Masonic hospital at Cherokee.
He had been ill for the past year.
The Rev. M. M. Alden, Enid, and the Rev. _____ Stow were officiating ministers.
Burial was at Jet cemetery under direction of Hodge-Smith Funeral Home, Cherokee.
Samuel Wilson Tucker, son of Charles and Amanda Tucker, was born December 15, 1871 in Breckinridge county, Kentucky, and departed this life at Masonic hospital, Cherokee April 24, 1959 at the age of 87 years, 4 months, and 9 days. He was one of eleven children.
He came to Oklahoma in 1899 and was united in marriage to Mary Betty Harned at Pond Creek on March 22, 1899. They established their home on a farm east of Jet until 19__.
He with some friends and neighbors established the First State Bank of Jet in 1913 where he served as Cashier and then as President for 34 years. He also served the Alfalfa National Farm Loan Association as Secretary and Treasurer for 35 years.
Mr. Tucker was a member of the First Methodist church in Jet where he served as teacher and Sunday school superintendent for 46 years. He served many years on the official board and was made an honorary steward for life.
He was active in all civic projects and served as president of the Jet Commercial club for several years. His philanthropic deeds toward youth of the community in their education, business, christian guidance and _ _____ _________ will long remain a memory.
He was preceded in death by one son, Harned, his parents, five sisters and two brothers.
Survivors include his wife, Mary Betty, of the home, two sons, Clyde L. of Cherokee and Walter G. of Jet, two daughters, Mrs. Ben H. Nelson of Sapulpa and Mrs. Thomas R. Cole of Wichita, Kans., three brothers, Dr. J. C. Tucker of Litchfield, Ky., Jeff Tucker of Louisville, Ky., and Kirby Tucker of Alton, Ill., and seven grandchildren.
Many other relatives and friends mourn his passing.
Pallbearers wer Jim Lambert, Kirby Tucker of Alton, Ill., and sev- (sic) Charles Dunn, C. L. Page, Fal Tucker, Dale Metcalf and Ralph Collins.
Honorary member were Ralph Hubbard, Dr. I. L. Mitchell, Charles Haunschild, Russell Arganbright, Glenn Yoder, Raymond Frey, Hershel Blackledge, George S. Jordan, Rupert Jenlink, Elbe Russell, Elbert Ridgeway, Perry Manning, John Robbins, Jesse Arganbright, T. F. Wood, Johnny George, Virgil George, C. M. George, Sr. Bennie Bowers and Charles Castle.
