William V. Zaphel, 93, Thursday, March 12, 2009, Rantoul, Champaign Co., Illinois. He was son of August and Antoinette (Shapuras) Zoffelis and was born on September 9, 1915, on his mother's birthday. He married Esther K. (Katy) Schnorr on August 5, 1938, at Covington, Indiana. She survives.
Also surviving are a daughter, Helen (Ray) Lewis, a son, Ron (Penny) Zaphel, a foster daughter, Aleta Schlueter, his grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
He graduated from Westville High School in 1938 and worked 35 years with the Department of Defense as an electric lineman at Chanute Air Force Base, Rantoul.
He served in the U.S. Army during World War II and was assigned to the Philippine Islands.
