On Dec. 7, 1944 Calvin enlisted in the army. Served in the 4th Infantry Regiment as a Technician Fifth Grade. He saw action in Hawaii, Saipan and Japan. After he was honorably discharged Nov. 14, 1946, on a GI bill attended watch makers school in Denver for 13 months. In 1947 Calvin proudly opened his first Jewelry Store in Bird City, Kansas. In 1955 he relocated his store to St. Francis and in 1960 moved his store to Burlington, Co. where he was in business for 48 years. In 2007 Calvin semi-retired. His granddaughter now runs and owns the business.
Calvin was one busy man! He loved playing softball and played for 55 years retiring at age 72. Always loving music he started his DJ business in 1992 and enjoyed playing for many different celebrations. He also enjoyed traveling, bowling, gardening, helping with wheat harvest, fishing and boating plus he never saw a slot machine that he didn't love and spent many hours pulling the handles of the "one-armed bandits".
No matter what he was doing he always had fun and was friends with everyone. Calvin truly loved life and enjoyed it to the fullest.
On July 4, 2008, Calvin passed away in the Burlington Hospital at the age of 83 from Parkinson Disease. The large crowd in attendance at his funeral was a testimony of the love and respect people had for him, which included 6 different minster's (past and present) from other churches and towns.
