Grace was the fourth child and only daughter of Bertha Rebecca (Mannon) and Carlton Jacob Bear. Her parents were born in Mercer County, IL and moved to Monticello, Piatt County, IL sometime after the birth of her brother Lee Myron in 1887.
Grace had a cousin by the name of Grace (Mannon) Histed, who became the Mayor of New Boston, Mercer County, IL which gave her the honor of being the very first woman to be elected Mayor in the State of Illinois.
On Feb 18, 1914 Grace married Orville H. Martin, son of Ida M and Henry P Martin. To this union was born at least one daughter; Marilynn M Martin.
Orville died in March of 1972. The DOD on Grace's headstone is hard to read but I think it says she died in 1975? They are buried next to each other in the Monticello Cemetery, as well as Grace's parents.
