Religious Figure. An English Non Conformist Church leader, "prince of the Puritans", John Owen was born in Oxfordshire and took his BA at Queen's College in Oxford in 1632. During the English Civil War he sided with Parliament and became Oliver Cromwell's chaplain in Ireland in 1649. Later he became Vice Chancellor at Oxford University. Using his influence in society he helped to get John Bunyan out of jail. They are now buried in the same cemetery, Bunhill Fields. (bio by: Björn Haglund)
