Merrill served as a 2nd Lieutenant and Pilot of B-24E (#42-64397), 18th Bomber Squadron, U.S. Army Air Force during World War II.
He resided in Montgomery County, Maryland prior to the war.
He enlisted in the Army on April 25, 1941, prior to the war, in Baltimore, Maryland. He was noted as being employed as a sheet metal worker and also as Single, without dependents.
He died in the "Line Of Duty" in the crash of his bomber into the McCoy Mountains, nine miles west of Blythe, California. Nine other service members also perished.
