He was a versatile character performer whom after appearing in a number of Broadway plays, began appearing in films in the early 1950s. Some of his best performances include "12 Angry Men" (1957), "Curse of the Undead" (1959), "Judgment at Nuremberg" (1961), "Fail Safe" (1964), "Patton" (1970), "The Pilot" (1980) and "The Verdict" (1982). For television, he had most noted roles on "Ironside", "Insight", "Bonanza", "Dr. Kildare" and as General Korshak on the popular "M*A*S*H." series. His distinctive voice was also heard in hundreds of radio and TV commercials as well. He died of a heart attack at age 74.
