Horry Herald August 2, 1906
Mr. James Booth, another one of Horry's citizens died May 25th, 1906 at his home near Adrian at the age of sixty seven years.

After a few days of intense suffering bourne with Christian fortitude and patience, he sweetly breathed his last. His immortal spirit returned to God who gave it. Thus passed away a good man, a loving devoted husband and a kind neighbor. He leaves a wife, eleven children and a host of friends this side of the silent river that divided the fleeting present from the eternal future. Although they were heart broken to give him up. They did not mourn as those who have no hope, they can only look forward to the remaining loved ones. They have lost a husband and father, Heaven has gained a jewel.

He possessed a broad and deep nature free from malice. He was charitable and merciful to all whom he met. Being reared by pious parents he chose that good part early in life which was never taken away from him. He had been a consistent member of the M. E. Church at Poplar for about fifty years and was faithful in attending Sunday school and prayer meeting until disabled by affliction. He was a working member in the cause of Christ and always found at this post of duty. He suffered long but bore it patiently, seeming perfectly resigned to the will of God; leaving testimony that all was well with him when the summon came. We shall meet him no more in this world, but we hope to meet him again where parting will be no more.

At 11 o'clock on the following day his remains were carried to the Methodist church at Poplar, where the Rev. J. C. Davis preached the funeral, after which loving friends laid him in the family cemetery to await the resurrection morn.

We extend our sympathy to the bereaved wife and entire family connection in this their hour of bereavement. May thy will be done.

Ye sisters and brothers of metal years,
The wife and children too,
Ye are waiting still in the valley of tears,
But he waits to welcome you.
A Friend.
