Peter HASLER, one of the fourteen children who came to bless the home of Peter and Elizabeth {STUCKEY} HASLER, was born in Taylor Township, September 21, 1848, and departed this life September 7, 1924, aged seventy-five years, eleven months and sixteen days. On March 16, 1876, he was united in marriage to Catherine FEUTZ. To this union four children were born, one of whom, William Tellie died in infancy. The surviving children are Miss Estella HASLER, at home; Mrs. May BARKER, also at home, and Mrs. Emma LEDGERWOOD near Mineral. The mother of these children departed this life July 18, 1882. On August 4, 1883, Mr. HASLER was united in marriage the second time to Barbara BORTER. To this union two children were born, William HASLER, of Park, and Henry HASLER, of Bloomfield. And again the angel of death entered the home and took away the wife and mother of this family. Besides these children, he leaves to mourn their loss, seven grandchildren, and one great grandchild, also the following brothers and sisters. Mrs. Margaret WAGGONER, of Olney, Illinois; Mrs. Amanda LESTER, near Scotland; Mrs. John B. GROVE, Miss Sarah HASLER, James HASLER and Sam HASLER, all of Bloomfield. A sister Mrs. Emaline KESSLER, of Illinois, departed this life two weeks ago. Mr. HASLER'S entire life was spent on the farm, and the present home in within a short distance of his birthplace. He was a very progressive farmer; a home-loving man; a man with excellent character, and just and fair in his dealings with everyone. When an infant his mother had him christened, although in later years he never united with any church, still his daily acts and thoughts proved he was a believer in the Christian life. For several months he had been in failing health, but was always kind and jovial, and it was a great pleasure to converse with him. He waged a brave fight for life, and all that loving children could do was done to restore his health. He made the remark that last Saturday was the happiest day of his life, and the end came Sunday evening when he passed from this world without a struggle. He will be greatly missed in the home by the children and grandchildren, as well as by other relatives and friends; and it will be hard for us to pass by the beautiful maple trees and see the vacant chair underneath them where it was a pleasure to stop and have a few friendly words with him, but his memory will live in our hearts forever. A large concourse of neighbors and friends and kindred attended the funeral services under the large, spreading shade trees at his home, conducted by Elder T. A. COX, on Tuesday afternoon, September 9, 1924. Then near the spot where he was born, and as it were in the garden at his home, his body was carefully laid to its last resting place in the little Hasler cemetery, to wait till Jesus calls.
