Flight Officer Cochran was killed in the crash of U.S. Army Air Corps B-29 Superfortress #44-61712 at North Field, Guam. Four other airmen also perished:

1st Lt. Edward W. Williams (pilot)
1st Lt. George E. Godsey
1st Lt. Joseph A. Little
1st Lt. Charles N. Roberts
