PLATTEVILLE - The body of the late Flight Officer James O. Clarke, Platteville, who was killed Sept. 18, 1945, when his B-24 crashed on Mt. Sembrone, Philippine Islands, will arrive in Platteville Tuesday afternoon. The flag draped casket will be taken to the Karrman funeral home and remain there until Wednesday afternoon when services will be held at 2 p.m. at the Primitive Methodist church. The Rev. Wade Miller, Pittsburgh, Pa.; a former pastor of the church, will officiate. Burial will be in Greenwood cemetery, Platteville. The Amvets, V.F.W., and the American Legion posts will conduct military rites. Flight Officer Clarke was born in Platteville, June 1, 1925. He enlisted in the Army AIr corps in Dec., 1942, and was called to active duty July 13, 1943, after his graduation from high school that year. He and his crew were sent to Hawaii July 15, 1945, and joined the 26th Bomb squadron. In August of that year the squadron transferred to Biak island, New Guinea. On a flight from here to Okinawa his plane crashed and all the crew were killed. Survivors include his parents, Prof. and Mrs. Ernest E. Clarke, and five brothers, Kenneth and William, at home; Donald Lanesboro, Minn.; Robert, The Dalles, Ore., and John, Chicago.
