William, who resided at 3204 Monroe Street, Wilmington, Delaware, served as a Private First Class on B-24E (#41-28530), 356th Bomb Squadron, 302nd Bomber Group, U.S. Army Air Force during World War II.

He died in the "Line Of Duty" when his B-24 exploded while on a routine training mission off the coast of Jacksonville, Florida.

He had served in the Army for one year and one month at the time of his death.
